Beautiful lace dresses were popular during the Victorian Era because of their fragile beauty and elegance. Today, we marvel in the intricacy of the work involved in creating these gorgeous garments and we strive to recreate them. During this lesson, students will be duplicating an antique dress and matching slip from Wendy’s personal collection. Nothing is more beautiful than a hand embroidered dress embellished with miles of lovely French lace insertions, and this dress proves to be an instant favorite. The glorious design of the dress is in keeping with those of the late 19th Century, but its actual date is unknown.

The dainty embroidery design consists of luscious looped bullion flowers, gathered together in puffs. The granito centers are perfectly suited to the dimensional shape of the buds. Beautifully graceful stems are recreated in satiny smooth stem stitch while the leaves are given sheen by the use of padded fishbone stitch. Working with imported cotton organdy, students will learn to attach shaped lace insertion via point de Paris stitch by machine, lace to lace, lace to entredeux, and many other French hand sewing construction techniques.

Kit contains cotton organza, lace insertion, lace edging Floche, buttons, needles, gimp cord, pattern in sizes 2,3, and 4, slip pattern, embroidery design, and complete instructions.
