Baby looks resplendent in her adorable fancy coat and bonnet ensemble. Working on silk broadcloth, students will learn the technique of thread replacement reweaving. Thread replacement is a technique used to embellish plain fabric by removing an existing fabric thread and reweaving in a replacement thread of another color. The replacemnt threads are rewoven in a grid or pattern, which provides an excellent accent fabric to perfectly coordinate with the original weave.
During this lesson, you will be working in both striped and grid patterns to create the contrasting fabric for the cape, cuffs, and bonnet brim of this adorable outfit. To further embellish the contrasting replacement thread, bullion flowers are sprinkled about, and matching embroidery also adorns the front opening of this otherwise simple design. Gathered lace edging finishes the scallops and cuffs, adding a bit of femininity and charm.
Kit contains silk broadcloth, Japanese lawn, lace edging, Madeira silk embroidery floss, piping string, buttons, silk satin ribbon, needles, pattern, and detailed instructions.
Infant (6-9months) size only.
