The focus of this 2-day lesson is fagotting: the art of attaching one fabric to another with finished edges. Fagotting was once a utilitarian embroidery stitch worked in patterns to create beauty as well as function. Stricly decorative, the technique is used here as an embellishment to the otherwise plain bodice of this high-waist dress. Instead of bias binding, spaghetti turn-cord is used resulting in consistency of design. Working with tatting thread the bias is attached with a simple knotted stitch. The fagotted swirls are applied to a strip of batiste which is embellished with a single bullion rose inside each section.
The base fabric of choice is lovely dotted Swiss voile , a standard of vintage baby attire. An extensively illustrated handout provides detailed instructions for construction of the garment, an embroidery primer and complete fagotting directions.
Includes pattern in sizes 6 months, 1, & 2.
