Item Number:
Dew Drops Christening gown, slip, and bonnet is a gorgeous, moderate length christening gown made of the most exquisite handkerchief linen. The t-style yoke is cut in an A-line shape and the extra gathers are attached to the yoke with entredeux. The Edwardian style, attached shaped collar is made of contrasting blue linen edged with buttonhole scalloping and embellished with embroidery. Additional details include three-quarter length sleeves edged in an embroidered and scalloped edge cuff of blue linen; an attached belt, double breasted and edged with tiny scallops; folded pleats beneath the armscye; and an intricately buttonhole scalloped hem with lace edging stitched behind the scallops.
The equisite embroidery, done in pale blue, includes more than 14 different embroidery techniques including surface padding stitches, pulled thread stitches, cutwork, and counted thread stitches.
The matching bonnet is constructed in the same blue linen as the collar and cuffs. The crown is embroidered in white threads on blue linen and the brim was stitched with blue threads on white linen. More buttonhole scalloping forms the decorative edges of the brim and lace edging was added beneathe the scalloping by hand.
The slip design is a simple Gertrude style slip with the shoulders, neckline, and armhole openings finished in tiny buttonhole scalloping. The slip hem is finished with lace edging attached to the fabric with Point de Paris stitch by machine.
The 40 page instruction booklet includes step-by-step diagrams of each stitch, close-up color photos, and detailed instructions for both embroidery and construction. Although the gown features many advanced embroidery stitches, it is easily possible to simplify the design to meet your needs. Even if you've never touched a needle and thread, the gown can be created using today's machine embroidery designs. If you are a novice embroiderer, choose the embroidery stitches you like to stitch to work the design.
Pattern includes sizes 6, 12, and 24 months.
