This beautiful baby dress begins with a base fabric of the best linen in the world, Ulster in luscious pale pink or baby blue. The gentle scalloping of the seams emphasizes the simple high yoke style dress. Cute baby puffed sleeves are edged in the tiniest armband imaginable and the sweet Peter Pan collar is delicately edged in tatting. Tatting also trims the straight hemline of the slightly gathered dress, adding just the right touch to the classic lines while deliciously detailed cutwork embroidery defines the style of this gorgeous linen baby dress. This type of cutwork involves a technique developed in Pisa, Italy, hence the name “Italian Cutwork”. The curved bow and streamer shapes are outlined, cut, and edges overcast to form the open areas of the design. More cutwork accents the yoke to tie in the elements at eye level. This technique is not as difficult as it looks, and during this lesson, you will learn the intricacies of the art: How to start, the correct method of stitching the foundation, and finally, the best way to overcast the edges. The result is the most exquisite embroidery technique ever. The addition of traditionally embroidered flowers completes the styling of this feminine creation for your baby girl.
