What an exquisite masterpiece of simplicity! Beautifully tailored and immaculately designed, the simple lines of this classic garment are enhanced with one simple embellishment along the center front. During this lesson of Embroidery Club, Wendy shares with you her knowledge of drawn and counted thread work. The technique of Italian Hemstitching is somewhat undiscovered in this country, but not for long. This intriguing art is not usually displayed on children’s wear, but it lends itself perfectly well when applied with dainty threads and more intricate fibers. Three bars of open work embellish the central front of the top. The open work is made unique by the addition of bullion embroidery; further creating dimension and texture to the technique. The only other decorative enhancement is the teeny tiny pleated edging along the collar and cuffs, completely in harmony with the geometric shape of the embroidered bars. Using a special tool made originally for creating miniature drapery, we create the perfectly spaced quarter-inch pleats of the linen flounce. Adorable little shorts made of blue Pima mini striped cotton peek out from beneath the cute a-line top, coordinating with the contrasting cuffs and collar. This outfit is intended for little boys, but those of you wishing to convert it can simply eliminate the shorts and lengthen the top for a cute, crisp summer dress.
