Sewing for babies is a favorite pastime of mine, and this pattern is sure to capture your passion for sewing too. This precious baby gown is made of the prettiest Swiss batiste fabric. Bearissima II is a bit heavier than Nelona, but it is the perfect canvas for embroidery. As Wendy’s favorite batiste, it was chosen because of its lovely smoothness and brilliant white color. The button-down-the-front style of this little gown is gathered and tied at the neckline with silk satin ribbon of glorious blue, woven through mini Swiss beading and edged with tatting. More beading and ribbon form gathers which tie at the wrists, creating an irresistible softness. A lovely scalloped Madeira Appliqué hem band made of blue Japanese lawn forms the hemline of the gown and handmade tatting finishes the seams. Precious blue shell buttons are the final complement to the design. The embroidery design consists of adorable shadow stitched baby pull toys accented with surface embroidery stitches such as Granitos, Chain stitch, and French Knots, making this the sweetest of Wendy’s designs. Sprinkles of bullion flowers further accent the shadow stitched ribbon streamers down the front of the gown.

The matching duster coat features a pretty pointed collar and matching cuffs of contrasting blue lawn, edged with handmade tatted trim. Sweet bullion flowers, matching the embroidery along the front of the gown, embellish the collar and cuffs of the duster coat. Three coordinating blue shell buttons keep the open front closed on nippy days.

The cap-style bonnet features a scalloped Madeira band applied with the Point de Paris stitch then embroidered with more bullion flowers. Silk satin ribbons tie at the neck. The bonnet crown and bottom edges are edged with covered baby piping in contrasting blue lawn fabric. The front edge of this delightful creation is edged in tiny tatting. This lovely ensemble is perfect for tiny babies just coming home from the hospital, up to Size 6 months. DMC Embroidery floss and the tiniest embroidery needles were chosen as the embroidery medium, in order to keep the embroidery as dainty as possible.
