Discover how only three embroidery stitches can turn plain linen cloth into something magical. This delightful antique reproduction baby dress is embellished with drawn thread work along the hemline of the skirt and vertical rows of the same stitch groupings across the Empire style bodice. Working with gorgeous Ulster 1000 linen, the result of the stitch configuration is dainty and lacelike. Stitches include basic hemstitch to attach hems, Wave Stitch Filling, and Chevron Stitch. The three-quarter length sleeve is edged with unique triangular-shaped cuffs, edged with a tiny hemstitched border and the tiniest tatting available. The collar consists of a narrow ruff, hemmed with a tiny hemstitched border and embellished with an open hemstitched band. More tatting finishes its edges. Swiss entredeux is inserted between the bodice and skirt and around the armscye in order to attach the sleeves to the dress. Beautiful pearl ribbon circlets line the bodice below each row of hemstitching, and a beautiful blue silk ribbon is threaded through each loop and tie in back. This intriguing art has ancient roots, and through the expertise of Wendy, you will finally be able to master the technique of drawn thread work.

We have assembled a kit for you containing only the best materials available—the exact supplies used in the sample garment. The kit contains everything you will need to complete the project in one of the three sizes, including full spool DMC cotton thread to match linen, 1-1/3 yards white Ulster 1000 linen, 1½ yards handmade tatting, 1-1/3 yards entredeux, Wendy’s Embroidery Needles in two sizes, and 3 shell buttons 3/8” wide.

Supplies
Tiny curved embroidery scissors (Gingher #00), dressmaker shears, Fine point blue fabric marker or lead pencil, magnification and light, tape measure, clear plastic ruler, glass head pins, #60 Universal machine needles, and basic sewing supplies.
